New HVAC??

Just the new pic of the completed garage, mudroom and yes, the windows and doors have arrived! You can see them beginning the installation. The windows were delivered yesterday in a semi, which could not access the property well, so the guys had to unload all 50+ windows and carry them individually into the house from the outer driveway. That's a lot of hard work, since many are quite heavy I was told. I empathized by saying that I thought I was ill-used yesterday when the elevator in a downtown parking garage broke and I had to take the stairs to my car on the 8th level, but certainly that pales in comparison to the effort they expended.
At the urging of Riverbend, we've hired another professional engineer to size the HVAC. If you read our earlier posts, you know we were quite pleased with the efforts of the energy auditor we originally used. Riverbend suspects the HVAC is still oversized and used the experience of another one of their customers who elected not to hire this particular guy to convince us to have one more source look at our design. The other customer had used a local HVAC guy who oversized their unit. Now they have mold because of incorrect assumptions and calculations used for sizing, humidity control and air exchange. They have to retrofit their home to solve the problem. Ok, so you have my undivided attention. Even if the result comes back the same, it still gives us peace of mind. The cost was surprisingly low at $400.00, so I felt it would be foolish not to get a second opinion. The founders of this firm designed the heating and cooling systems for the Gemini and Apollo spacecraft. I never heard the astronauts complain about how cold it was to make those rides, so I guess they do good work. On the other hand, I also never saw the crew wearing anything in flight except those heavy silver suits with the helmets that screw on. I hope that attire isn't a required accessory for the home projects they do. I much prefer a bathrobe.

Well, I guess you can't go wrong with a second opinion! He must be on his game if he designed for NASA. Hopefully the weather will hold out for you two! Happy Holidays.....
