The local newspaper, The Missourian, published an article about the house today, emphasizing its energy efficiencies and other green aspects. Both Ellen and I were quoted, although neither of us were quoted accurately. Nothing bad, but what they said we said, we didn't exactly say. (repeat that sentence 10 times fast) The reporter paraphrased and put " "around his misinterpretation of our comments. For example, instead of Ellen's 'rustic' description, he used the word 'primitive.' Primitive would look like something I put together, not this structure. I spoke about 'modern building techniques and products' which he translated into 'energy efficient materials,' something completely different, and actually, nonexistent. In my study of green building trying to figure out exactly what that meant (still unsure), I never found an energy efficient 'material,' only energy efficient products and techniques. I am so glad that I don't have a job of public interest. I'd always feel like I was herding cats whenever a reporter showed up.
We have our first showing on Sunday. A couple who visited the Riverbend booth during the recent Log Home & Timber Frame show in St Louis called me today and asked if they could see the house. Happy to do that. Ellen and I both feel that Riverbend and our builder have exceeded our expectations. I'll strongly recommend both and hope they use both when they choose to build their home.
