Wall eye view

All of the walls are up and the crew started on the roof today! My fears of cost overruns were unfounded. Jim Ince, our builder felt that there may be a couple more days of labor than anticipated, but that's about it. When I asked him if he liked this kind of construction, he said yes, emphatically, adding that he'd love to do another one. He called out the day they did the rear wall. The exit from the dining room onto the deck took some time because of the angles, but the remainder of the rear wall went up in an hour. If you think about it, things really have gone fast. We started with nothing but a subfloor at noon on the 29th. A little more than 10 days later, we'll have a dried in shell ready for the roof, stone and siding guys.
These shots show the front entry door with the kitchen on the left and the window for the study/office/library/strange little room, on the right. We haven't quite figured out what to call that small room. It's an unusual shape and only a couple hundred sq ft in size. It's our intent to install built-in bookshelves and have it be my workspace, but that's not really well defined yet. It will be completely different from the rest of the house. Instead of a rustic look, it will be quite formal with wainscoting and a bloodwood floor. Bloodwood is also called Cardinal wood because it is truly red. That's about all we've decided so far for that space.
The second shot sweeps down the front of the house to the garage. The empty space between the house and garage will be a stick built mud room.
