BIG NEWS

For several years, Ellen, I and all of the Nurnberger clan down here in Missouri have suggested to Mom that she move down here to be closer to us and away from the large house in which she lives. A couple of weeks ago, Mom called and said she was going to sell her house and do just that. As I mentioned in an earlier post, Mom visited us this weekend to look at a retirement village. At the last minute, Ellen also found a house for rent that just hit the market this week. To make a long story short, the retirement village didn't work out. Mom hated it and I agreed with her. Don't misunderstand....it was a great place, clean, good food, and the people were very friendly and nice. It's just that all of the residents we saw had some sort of feebleness about them, whether mental or physical. I didn't feel Mom was ready for something like that, and surprisingly, she used exactly the same words when explaining why she didn't want to live there. The rental house was perfect, though, with a good solid landlord who wants Mom to live there badly enough that he's willing to take it off the market for a month in the hopes she sells her home within that window.

The big news though is that Mom's ultimate home will be right on our lot, God and the law willing. I suggested we tear down our shed and build a small home in its place with a portion of the proceeds from the sale of her home. I didn't expect the enthusiasm that both Mom and Ellen showed for that. It's not for sure, since we have to meet with both our builder and an attorney to make sure that the project is feasible and that we don't break anything in Mom's will or get Ellen and I into some sort of a tax problem. Unless we can't get past those two gates though, Mom will be living rent free with family literally steps away. I believe Dad would have been pleased. We certainly are.
