Moving day
This was the most disorganized move I've ever had. At the start of the week, I felt it would be a breeze, since the only customer facing commitment I had was one day in Kansas City. Lots of time to pack and make small trips. There are 7 people who can book my calendar, and it seemed like they all noticed my availability at once. I was in front of a customer all day every day and had to work until 9pm or so each night as well. Dell doesn't pay me to move, I guess. Move day came with very little ready to go. The movers hauled the big stuff, but our plan to have them populate the basement with certain items was also thwarted by the previous day's rain. The side lane was too muddy and rock had not yet been laid. So our garage is loaded with stuff we didn't intend to be there. On the plus side, the movers loved the house. One of them stated his intent to move in with us, so he'd be right at hand when it was time to clear the garage. Actually, that didn't seem like a bad deal to me. Another one of the movers, Gary, was right on the same page with Ellen. For years, Ellen has stated her desire to have a moose head mounted over the fireplace, or somewhere in the house. I have always, and still do reject that idea without compromise. During one of their breaks, Gary said, "do you know what would look awesome over the mantel? A gigantic moose head." I replied, "Did Ellen put you up to that?" He seemed genuinely puzzled, so I do believe it was an independent thought. Ellen roared when she heard about it, but no, there will be no moose head over the fireplace.
