Psalm 30
I had a conversation with our esteemed banker and part time therapist, Bob Link, who kept my nerves reasonably calm during the economic meltdown. I'm sure you can appreciate the angst that comes when you watch the world disintegrate around you in the midst of an undertaking like this. We're wrapping things up on his end and he remarked at how well this project went. Both he and the title company have been amazed at how quickly and smoothly this home was built. He said a home like this typically takes 12-18 months to complete. We'll occupy in less than seven. I suggested it was the type of construction, but he disagreed, stating that another home being built using Structural Insulated Panels was greatly delayed because the panels were the wrong size when they arrived on site. The windows of another house were also the wrong size, so there was a huge hassle over responsibility that has delayed the project for months. He listed case after case where people who began their homes long before we did, were nowhere near in a position to occupy. In my mind, this ratifies completely the value proposition of Riverbend Timber Framing and the outstanding work of Jim Ince and his talented subcontractors. We sourced the panels and windows, in addition to the timbers from Riverbend, so everything fit. We did have a window issue, when some of the glass that should have been tempered was not. Riverbend assumed responsibility and organized their replacement without cost or hassle to us. I cannot speak highly enough of the ethic and commitment to customer satisfaction that firm displays. Whenever Jim fell behind for some reason, he always found a way to get back on track and on budget, all the while displaying a sense of humor and continuing to build trust in us. When we were upset over some minor point, so was he, and took care of it without further discussion. If we asked for something impractical, and we have, he'd explain why we shouldn't do that. Above all though, we must look to the last verse of the Psalm we chose to carve into one of our beams. We give thanks to God for enabling us to build this home and providing the life we have. We will move into it with that spirit and retain this praise every single day.
