Desperate Landscapes

Ok, so I stole the title of a show on DIY to name this entry...This photo highlights a landscaping challenge we'll have. It seems an eon ago that I posted an entry discussing the reasons for the high foundation walls for both the north side of the house and the garage at the rear of the home. I won't rehash everything here, but the slope of the lot dictated this course and a cold financial assessment concluded it wasn't worth the money to reinforce the garage floor in order to create a usable space beneath. As a result, you have a high concrete wall with a little structure sitting on top of it. We plan to plant native wildflowers on the hill of dirt you see, but that will still leave all that concrete exposed. What to do? It's been suggested that we paint the concrete. That may be best, I guess, but with paint comes re-paint. Can we solve it with landscaping? My thought at the moment is to erect an inexpensive lattice that hides the concrete entirely and plant a variety of climbing plants like Clematis. I'm very much open to suggestion if anyone has ideas. We'll need to figure something out sooner or later.
