Mom's window

We've written often about the window Mom made shown in these photos (Mom's in there too). However, to refresh and prevent you from having to search the archives, a number of years ago, Mom made a side panel for her neighbor's front door. She had just started doing stained glass and undertook this ambitious project. The panel stayed in place until the door was replaced a few years ago. The neighbor returned the panel to my mother, who offered it to us. We jumped at it, even though we had no idea at the time what we would actually do with it. As we were working up the plans for this house, it was Ellen who suggested that we find a way to incorporate it into the master bath. Jim Ince measured the panel and provided the rough opening size to Riverbend, so they could cut the hole in the SIP. We ordered a double pane custom window from Andersen to fit the opening. This serves to preserve the energy efficiency of the home and also protect Mom's panel from hail, wind, etc. The stained glass panel is mounted on the inside and really only held in place with moulding strips. If we ever need to move, we can easily remove the stained glass without leaving a hole in the wall and keep what we feel is an important heirloom from the Ranney side of the family.
