They're heeere

You know I'm reaching for something to post when I put up a picture of a mundane mailbox. Yes, I installed our mailbox this past weekend. Our mailing address is 243 Soetebier Dr., Washington, MO 63090. The postmaster knows about us and everything. Putting the box up did afford an opportunity to visit with one of our neighbors. He's been on the ground here since 1988. He gave me a lot of background on the farm that was subdivided into the lots of today. When he moved here, it was an emu farm. Eh? I'm really having a hard time getting my mind wrapped around the idea of large ostrich-like birds wandering through our woods. He said they were ugly and didn't smell particularly good, but his kids loved them at the time. He also told me that if I want to receive a UPS shipment, I should use 6842 Hwy YY, since that will appear on Mapquest and other popular mapping software. You can see the 6838 still on his mailbox next to ours for that reason. It's amazing what you can learn when you hang around a mailbox. I have to say though, I tried out the 6842 address. It did appear in Mapquest, but now, so does 243 Soetebier. It didn't just a few months ago. I hope our building permits didn't expose and ruin the 'private' aspect of our private lane. On the plus side, if you have a GPS system, you should be able to find us now without worrying about losing the directions.
